What Is Color Temperature?

Color temperature is a system used to measure the color characteristics of a light source, with a spectrum that ranges from warm to cool tones. These values are measured in Kelvin (K). In color temperature terms, higher values indicate cooler hues, such as blue, while lower values represent warmer hues, such as yellow. Just as in everyday life, blue is often associated with cool or cold environments, while yellow evokes warm scenes like sunsets and sunrises. In simple terms, color temperature describes how warm or cool a light appears visually.

🤔So, what color temperature is right for me?

🔥 Warm White (2700K–3000K)

Soft yellow light similar to candlelight, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere (such as in living rooms, bedrooms, and lounge areas). The appearance ranges from orange to yellowish white.

⛅ Neutral / Cool White (3100K–4500K)

Balanced, bright white light. Bulbs in this range emit a more neutral white and may even have a slight blue tone. Suitable for kitchens, offices, bathrooms, living rooms, dining areas, or general-purpose lighting.

☀️ Daylight (4600K–6500K+)

Crisp blue-white light. Once the color temperature exceeds 4500K, it enters the “daylight” range. It simulates midday sunlight and is ideal for task lighting, security lighting, or workplaces—especially in areas that require detailed work or sustained focus.

No matter which setting you choose, following these basic lighting principles will help you achieve a well-balanced and comfortable lighting environment:

  • Most rooms should avoid relying on a single light source. Using multiple types of lighting—ambient, task, and accent lighting—helps reduce glare and shadows while meeting the functional needs of the space. (If your fixture offers three adjustable color temperatures, that’s even better.)
  • In addition to color temperature, you should also pay attention to the Color Rendering Index (CRI). CRI measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colors of objects, and a higher CRI is generally more comfortable for the eyes.
